Sri Sailam Chatrapathi Shivaji Visited in 1674 AD

Sri Mallikarjuna Swamy was the presiding deity of various Kings and Veer Chatrapathi Shivaji was one among them. In the year 1674 AD Chatrapathi Shivaji the great Maratha King visited Srisailam on his expeditions to South India.

It is believed that Veer Shivaji did penance in the Kshetram to please Goddess Bharmaramba. According to tradition, the north gopuram of the temple was constructed by him. Moreover, he has taken up few renovations and restored the festivals of the temple under the protection of his officers.
